CHARACTER
Name: Ymir
Canon: Attack on Titan
Age: Real: 65+, Apparent: 17
Timeline: The end of Volume 12.
Personality:
Ymir, at first, appears to be a very selfish person. At the start, she comes off as bossy, confrontational, defiant, cynical and manipulative. This can be seen during the flashback of how she got past the walls. At first, after she had gained her humanity back, she spied on the humans and learned of Historia. As a means of using the girl, she enlisted into the military, and kept a close watch and a close hand on her in order to keep herself safe from Reiner and Bertolt, as she had stolen the titan power from a dear friend of theirs, and had been on the run ever since. In exchange for her crimes being pardoned, she planned to turn Christa over to them, fully aware of her true identity.
Even still, she has a soft side, and instead of giving the girl over, she decides to let her go, holding off the hoards of Titans in order to ensure her escape, as well as saving Bertolt. When asked why she chose to do so, she explained that they were the same. She understood their circumstance, and offers herself as a prisoner. When offered to be let go, she declines and expresses gratitude to the two. Their actions were what prompted her to gain her humanity back. As an homage to Historia, she claims that playing “Goddess” isn’t so bad, showing that she doesn’t mind being selfless in certain situations, and this in turn shows a change of heart in the aftermath.
She can be rather stoic at times, not seeming to really care about the events around her, choosing to see things the way they really are. She can be rather blunt and to the point, almost to a level where even shame is a very small concept in her mind. When she's finally comfortable, she can show a wide range of emotions, going so far as to actually cut loose and joke around with her comrades. She is highly intelligent, and deathly loyal when proven you're worth her time. She has very little patience for those who put themselves down, shown well when she insults Sasha for speaking formally, as opposed to her normal dialect. While it's forceful, she means well, and is willing to do everything in her power to make sure morality stays high. She went so far as to distract Connie from the fact that his mother became a titan, by angering him through insults.
She has the fear of losing those important to her. It's shown when she begs to see Christa again, claiming it to be due to her selfishness. Despite her status as a titan shifter as well as former titan resident, she shows a humanity that rivals the real deal. Her honesty grants her the ability to see her own faults. While she claims she isn't ashamed of her background and where she came from, she shows a fear of being alienated after revealing her secret, especially from Christa. When the girl reveals that she's on her side regardless, it allows Ymir to throw herself forward, unashamed, and with new hope that she will be able to stay accepted among the squad as a human and an ally.
While she claims she did all of this for herself, it is obvious that she wasn't the only person on her mind.
Background: Wiki page
Abilities:
Titan Shifting: Ymir's ability is similar to that of Eren Jaeger's, Reiner's, Annie's, and Bertolt's. While the rest of them have specified heights, her form is unspecified. Despite her small size, her speed and agility is above average, which allows her to take down enemies quickly and effictiently.
She is also able to climb walls and trees, allowing for fast navigation through crowded areas. Despite this, she has a disadvantage due to her size. While she can easily out maneuvar human or Titant, she can easily be overwhelmed if careless.
She also has the ability to emerge partially out of the nape of her Titan form. This allows her to interact with others while still transformed.
First Person:
It's not bad to play goddess...
[Clack clack clack clack]
Hnn?
[She had been staring at a sky just a moment ago. Her hand still raised high, she notices that a roof had replaced her view.]
[Clack clack clack clack.]
{What's that sound?}
[Sitting up, she looks around. She is still in her worn clothes, and fully aware of what had happened just moments before. All she did was blink. That's all it had taken, and it had only taken just a second. Where is she?
She moves to sit on her knees, her body slumping in bad posture as she looks around. Furrowing her brows, she notes the rows of seats, the carpeting, the incessant clacking. She'd read about trains in books, but never thought she'd see one in person. They had no use for trains within the city walls. There was no way to build a track, after all. Not the way things were built. Now, here she is on one.]
{What the hell is going on?}
[Her mental commentary is all that's keeping her company, as there appears to be no one else occupying her car. Maybe there were in the others, but she doesn't care enough to check. Standing slowly, she puts her hands on her hips, trying desperately to wrack her brain on just what to do. Where is Bertolt and Reiner? She had been with them moments before. Now, they're no where to be found.
All thoughts stop as the train screeches to a halt. She grunts, bracing herself for the stop, and grits her teeth when she sees the doors ahead open. What would be outside? Would she be back in the city? Would the men she chose to side with be waiting on the other side? All she can do was push herself forward, as the feel of something tugging at her gut grows stronger.
Peeking around the corner, she notices the platform. Stepping out, she then notices the people. This isn't her city. This isn't her home. This isn't the Shinganshina District.]
{What now?}
[Now that she's in an unknown place, what can she do? She has no information of any sort. It's then that her eyes fall on the posters. Walking up, she crosses her arms over her chest, reading them to herself before turning back around. In the distance, she notes the lack of walls. Does that mean no more Titans? Aside from herself, is the threat really gone?
It's at this moment that she felt a weight in her pocket. Pulling out the offending object, she inspects it closely.]
A watch?
[Opening it, it looks just like any other pocket watch she's seen before. Those buttons, though. Those are different. Pressing them a few times, she takes in the details of the screens and interchanging texts. She's going have to figure this out much later when she has a better bearing on what was going on.
One last glance at the posters, and she turns back around, making her way to what looks like the exit of the station. She knows she could very well ask for help, but she has too much pride for that. She'll figure this one out on her own. She has somewhere to be, people to see, and a certain girl she needs to protect. She can not be here.]
Third Person:
She felt her teeth sink into flesh. Blood flew, and skin tore as she clawed her way through the masses of Titans. She had to keep her safe. She wanted more than anything to follow, or at least bring her with her, but that wouldn't do. She could have very well died.
Historia...
She heard her voice in her mind, pushing her forward. Let's live for ourselves! Letting out a monstrous roar, she felt a new vigor raise in her morality. She would keep fighting; keep pushing forward. Jumping from one Titan to the next, she made quick work of ripping out their napes with claws and teeth. Her eyes wild in her Titan form. She had to make sure the squad had enough time to escape.
She could still feel Historia's hair as she had brushed it behind her ear. She had apologized, mostly because she had every intention of going back. She couldn't, however. It wasn't in her star's destiny. If she had continued running, they would have surely died. The fight ended in a blur of death.
She remembered opening her eyes on the wall. Laying there with Reiner and Bertolt, she spoke mostly out of reaction. Why had she followed them? Why had she continued going, instead of turning back. She owed them, she supposed. If it hadn't been for them breaking the wall, she would have continued to live in an eternal nightmare, forever roaming the lands as a Titan.
Apologies were exchanged, and she smiled. She would forgive them. She owed them that much. Once upon a time, she had taken something precious from them.
Besides...
It wasn't all that bad, playing Goddess.
